" Miley Cyrus: Miles to Go" by: Miley Cyrus RJ#22

2/1/12
Dear Mrs.Zrihen,

The book that I am reading is called "Miley Cyrus: Miles to Go," by: Miley Cyrus.  The quote that touched me the most was, "Dad, that isn't the line!" on page 86, because it shows readers that Miley is not afraid to say or do what she wants, when she thinks something is wrong, she will fix it right away, just like she did in this quote for her dad .  Before reading a book, I look at the genre, and then I look at the synopsis to get a sneak preview so I can tell if I would like it or not.  While reading a book, write words that I don't understand in the book, and I put sticky noes in the main places of the book so that I can use them later.  Last but not least, After reading a book, I look up all the words that I didn't understand, and then I do my reader's journal for Mrs.Zrihen.  The genre of this book is Autobiography, because its a book about Miley that is also written by Miley.  Any book that is made about a person and is written by that same person, is an autobiography.  The main characters in the book are Miley Cyrus, Billy Ray Cyrus, her mom, and her family( siblings, and grandparents).  The protagonists are all the characters.  The antagonists are the girls who bullied Miley in middle school.  The foil characters are Miley's true love and her friends that she talked about but didn't give names to.  The setting of this book takes place in Nashville,Tennessee, where Miley was born and raised before she became famous and starting moving everywhere.  The exposition of this book is that Miley had to make a decision whether she wanted to stick with cheerleading, or take the chances of becoming famous.  At first Miley thought her life might be ruined if she quits cheerleading because Disney might not choose her for the role of Hannah Montana, but at the end, she believed and got what she was believing, hoping, and setting her mind to.  The climax of this book is that Miley needs to believe more and tell herself all the time, that she can do it.  The falling action, is when Miley tries out for the role of Hannah Montana because she might be too young, and because they haven't called her back for months.  The resolution of this book, is that Miley ends up getting the part of Hannah Montana and becomes extremely famous from that show.  The author's tone in this book is soft but weak at the same time, its like she couldn't really make up her mind.  The mood she was in was heart-broken and happy.  The theme of this book was to teach people to always remember how life is so precious and it means a lot to people when someone changes in a good or bad way.  The author's point of view is that she wanted to give people a learning experience and instead of putting all negativity, just put positive things in your mind.  The pattern of organization is cause and effect because at first Miley didn't have hope in herself, but at the end she worked hard, and achieved her goals of becoming famous.  The author's purpose for writing this book was to inform people that people can be whatever and whoever they want, but as long as they are in love with what they do, nothing will change between them.  Three response starters are, I like the way the author wrote and explained herself in this book.  I noticed how the author really put focus into thinking of how to write it.  I wish that their was a little less confusion with their emotions.  I rate this book a 10 out of 10 because I liked how the author was detailed about everything and thought everything out before writing it.  That is what I liked the most about this book of this book.

Sincerely,

" The Frog Princess" by: E.D. Baker RJ#16

12/14/11
Dear Mrs.Zrihen,

The book that I am reading is called "The Frog Princess," by: E.D. Baker.  The quote that touched me the most was, "I am a prince, and to prove it to you...kiss me," on page 127, because it shows readers that the truth comes from the inside and the only way to over-seek the truth, is by doing something you don't, or won't like. The genre of this book is Fantasy, because the characters in the book aren't real, and the stuff they do can't really happen in real life.  The main characters in the book are Princess Emeralda, Prince Jorge, and all the frogs that join together to help the prince and princess to turn back to human.  The protagonists are all the characters.  There really aren't any antagonists that I can name.  The foil are the frogs that join together to help the prince and the princess become human again.  The setting of this book takes place in a forest where the princess was sitting and imagining herself with the prince in this exact swamp that she was standing next to.  The exposition of this book is that the prince and the princess turned into frogs and had to try to turn back human before midnight, or they will be stuck like that forever.  At first the princess thought her life was going to end because of the whole frog mis-happen but when she realized that  she will be okay as long as her prince was with her, she didn't care.  The climax of this book is that they need to over-face their fears of staying like a frog.  The falling action, is when the Princess falls in love with Prince Jorge and they want to get married but she doesn't know if he loves her back.  The resolution of this book, is that Prince Jorge also love Emeralda and he proposed to her the night they were supposed to change back into humans.  The main problem was that Emeralda and Jorge couldn't turn back until he kissed a princess and he did on the very same day as his wedding.  The author's tone in this book is soft but weak at the same time, its like she couldn't really make up her mind.  The mood she was in was heart-broken and happy.  The theme of this book was to teach people to always remember how life is so precious and it means a lot to people when someone leaves or changes, in this case.  The author's point of view is that she wanted to give people a learning experience and instead of putting all negativity, just put positive things in your mind.  The pattern of organization is strong and weak argument, because Emeralda and Jorge had to turn into frogs, but they turned back to humans on their wedding day.  The author's purpose for writing this book was to inform people that people can be whatever and whoever they want, but as long as they are in love, nothing will change between them.  Three response starters are, I like the way the author wrote and explained herself in this book.  I noticed how the author really put focus into thinking of how to write it.  I wish that their was a little less confusion with their emotions.  I rate this book a 9 out of 10 because I liked how the author was detailed about everything and thought everything out before writing it.  That is what I liked the most about this book of this book.

Current Events Journal

TITLE: Animal shelter's behavior experts face life and death decisions for animals

AUTHOR: John owens

SOURCE: THE MIAMI HERALD NEWSPAPER.

The topic of the article is that people from a Chicago Tribune are part of a shelter program for dogs and cats, so that they can get adopted.
The main idea of the article is (implied/stated): The main idea of this article is that poeple are giving up on getting dogs or cats, more and more, and the only thing left to do is put them to sleep.  This article is stated.
The author’s purpose for writing this article is to show reader’s how one person can make a difference and be known for something good in this world.
The author’s perspective in this article is objective/subjective (biased) because it is saying the truth and not adding or taking anything away from the article. This article is subjective.
The pattern of organization of the article is strong and weak argument becausedogs and cats are being put to sleep and they have a lot of information on it, but they also don't have a good reason.
The reason the author chose this pattern for the article is because it knows what is right and what is wrong.
The text features included in the article are:
The important details.
The exact amount of numbers they expressed for dogs and animals.
All the sections in trhe paragraphs.
This article is about (a summary in your own words): how not enough people are adopting nimals these days and instead of letting them have a good life, they are being killed for no reason.
The significance (importance) of this article is: that people should think about these animals for and hope they stay healthy for the rest of their lives.
What I learned from this article is: you should always be thankful for what the world does or gives to you because it could've been you who lost someone or something.
What I liked about this article is how detailed the author was, about the issue and how he knew everything about what was going on with the animals.
What I did not like about it was that dogs and cats are suffering because of us,people.
Who should read this article and why:  I think that people who are interesting in reading about the world and animals should read this article.
This article reminds me of (text-to-self) because it shows how animals lives can be taken away in a heart beat.
(text-to-text) : I think this is text-to-text because it tells readers how things/people valuable and mean a lot to others.
(text-to-world): I think this is text-to-world because it is dogs and cats against people/humans.
New vocabulary I learned:
Word:                                    Context Clues:                                  Definition:

1. advocacy- love, and someone to nurture.

2.euthanasia- put to sleep; death.

3. utilitarian- toys; something to play with.

"In a Heartbeat" by:Loretta Ellsworth RJ#13

11/23/11
Dear Mrs.Zrihen,

The book that I am reading is called "In a Heartbeat," by: Loretta Ellsworth .  The quote that touched me the most was, "I might die, which means losing a life, but at least I have a heart to give to someone who needs it," on page 7, because it shows how much Eagan has been through and that all she wants is to help someone, by saving there lives with her heart. The genre of this book is Fiction, because Eagan is the character in the book, but she didn't write it herself or tell the story herself.  The main characters in the book are Eagan, Eagan's parents, and Amelia.  The protagonists are all the characters.  There really aren't any antagonists that I can name.  The foil is the doctors and nurses that help Eagan try to live, and the doctor and nurses that insert Eagan's heart into Amelia.  The setting of this book takes place in a hospital, the day Eagan was born.  It was dark, and rainy.  The exposition of this book is thatEagan has a sickness and tries to fight with it, so she can become better and healthier.  At first Eagan thought she could actually get better, but at the end she notices that this is a serious sickness and there is no cure for it.  The climax of this book is that Eagan is a loving little girl that has something that can never be fixed.  The falling action, is when Eagan dies and has to give her heart to some other girl named Amelia, who really needs it.  The resolution of this book, is that Amelia now has a heart from Eagan, which means that its two people with one heart.  The main problem was that Eagan had to lose her life because of a terrible sickness.  The author's tone in this book is hard but soft at the same time, its like she couldn't really make up her mind.  The mood she was in was depressing and happy.  The theme of this book was to teach people to always remember how life is so precious and it means a lot to people when someone loses a life.  The author's point of view is that she wanted to give people a learning experience and instead of putting all negativity, just put positive things in your mind.  The pattern of organization is strong and weak argument, because Eagan has to die, but Amelia gets her life saved, because of Eagan's death.  The author's purpose for writing this book was to inform people that people can be born without a heart, and the only way to save them is by someone else donating their hearts to them .  Three response starters are, I like the way the author wrote and explained herself in this book.  I noticed how the author really put focus into thinking of how to write it.  I wish that their was a little less pain with how the author wrote this book and put exact details.  I rate this book a 10 out of 10 because I liked how the author was detailed about everything and thought everything out before writing it.  That is what I think of this book.

"Night" by: Elie Wiesel RJ#12

11/16/11
Dear Mrs.Zrihen,

The book that I am reading is called "Night," by: Elie Wiesel.  The quote that touched me the most was, "I will get out of this mess with peace, and have a normal life," on page 68, because it shows how much Elie has been through and that all he wants is to be free.  By that, I mean that you can tell what kind of person Elie wants to be and how he deserves to get his wish. The genre of this book is Memoir, because Elie is the character in the book and he is also the one who wrote the book.  The main characters in the book are Elie Wiesel, his family, and the nazi soldiers.  The protagonists are Elie and his family.  The antagonists are the nazi soldiers, that are working for Hitler.  The foil is the other jewish people that have to go to these horrific concentration camps.  The setting of this book takes place in Poland where Elie and his family lived.  It was dark, and rainy.  The exposition of this book is that Elie has to go suffer in a concentration camp just because he is jewish.  At first Elie didn't think this mess would go for too long, but he was wrong.  The climax of this book is that Elie and the rest of the jews shouldn't be bought in death camps, just because they are jewish and Hitler doesn't like jewish people.  The falling action, is when Elie an his friend from camp tried to escape.  The resolution of this book, is that all the jews teamed up to run away from the camp together so they can have a big army force and be free for once in their lives.  The main problem was that they all should have talked it through and make some exceptions.  The author's tone in this book is hard but soft at the same time, its like he couldn't really make up his mind.  The mood he was in was depressing and happy.  The theme of this book was to teach people to always remember what the holocaust was or it will happen again some day.  The author's point of view is that he wanted to give people a learning experience and instead of putting all negativity, just put positive things in your mind.  The pattern of organization is compare and contrast, because they are comparing the jews , to bad people, when they are just trying to live a normal life with peace, and no hate in the world.  The author's purpose for writing this book was to inform people to try new things instead of sticking with the old ones all the time.  Three response starters are, I like the way the author wrote and explained herself in this book.  I noticed how the author really put focus into thinking of how to write it.  I wish that their was a little less violence with how the author wrote this book and put exact details.  I rate this book a 10 out of 10 because I liked how the author was detailed about everything and thought everything out before writing it.  That is what I think of this book.
